About Rachel

Ocean View Typewriters is owned and operated by Rachel Spence, a professional editor and typewriter technician. She has experience in trade publishing as an in-house editor and as an acquisitions editor, and she has a BA and MA in English from the University of Toronto and a Publishing Certificate from Toronto Metropolitan University. Currently, she is a freelance book editor who works with private clients as well as with Canadian publishing houses.

Rachel's love of typewriters blossomed after moving from Toronto to the South Shore of Nova Scotia. She is fascinated by the history, styling, and mechanics of typewriters, and takes great pleasure in restoring them to excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Rachel is highly knowledgeable about typewriters and works on a wide variety of makes and models. She currently has over fifty typewriters in her personal collection, ranging from the 1890s to the 1960s. Many of her personal typewriters are on display in her home, where the Ocean View Typewriters workshop is located.

Ocean View Typewriters emerged from Rachel's passion for typewriters and desire to nurture that passion in others by providing better access to serviced typewriters.
